Skylight Grand Rounds:A Clinical Learning Series for Therapists

Series Description

Skylight Grand Rounds is a bi-monthly clinical learning series designed to bring therapists together in a spirit of curiosity, connection, and ongoing professional growth. Each session features a presentation from experienced clinicians and thought leaders on topics relevant to contemporary clinical practice—offering insights that participants can thoughtfully integrate into their work with clients.
At Skylight, we believe that meaningful development happens not only through formal training, but through exposure to diverse perspectives and real-world clinical wisdom. Skylight Grand Rounds creates a space where therapists can step out of the isolation of individual practice and into a shared learning environment—one that values depth, reflection, and the evolving nature of our work.
Presentations may explore clinical approaches, therapeutic challenges, emerging ideas in the field, or the nuanced realities of working with individuals and couples. Each session includes time for reflection and dialogue, inviting participants to engage with the material, ask questions, and consider how the ideas presented resonate within their own clinical practice.
Skylight Grand Rounds is open to therapists in the community who will receive one continuing education (CE) credit per session. Whether you are looking to expand your clinical toolkit, reconnect with the deeper meaning of your work, or engage with a thoughtful community of peers, Skylight Grand Rounds offers a place to learn, reflect, and grow—together.

2026 Grand Rounds Schedule

The Moments We Avoid: What Therapists Don’t Say and Why It MattersPresenter: David Klow, LMFTMonday, May 119am-10amRegister
Presentation descriptionIn nearly every session, there are moments when therapists sense something important but choose not to say it. This presentation explores the internal calculations behind those decisions—the fears, ethical considerations, and relational dynamics that shape what we hold back. Together, we will examine the clinical cost of avoidance, as well as the conditions under which speaking more directly can deepen the therapeutic process. Participants will leave with a clearer framework for discerning when and how to move toward these moments in ways that are both authentic and clinically attuned.

Beginnings as the First Intervention: Setting the Therapeutic Frame with New PatientsPresenter: Dr. April Nisan Ilkmen, LMFTMonday, July 139am-10amRegister
Presentation descriptionThis presentation explores how to set up the therapeutic frame at the start of treatment. It highlights practical approaches to clarifying expectations, boundaries, and goals, while fostering trust and engagement. Clinical examples will illustrate how a strong foundation early on supports effective and consistent care.

Cultivating Hope Through a Humanistic LensPresenter: Daniel Bahner, LPCMonday, September 149am-10amRegister
Presentation descriptionThis session explores how clinicians can foster hope through person-centered, existential, and humanistic modalities. Grounding this conversation in Viktor Frankl’s insights on hope & meaning making in concentration camps, we will examine the intersections of hope with other humanistic concepts such as unconditional positive regard, post-traumatic growth, individual and collective narratives, spirituality, and more. Clinicians will leave the session feeling more confident in their ability to cultivate hope in clients in ways that are authentic for their therapeutic relationship.
