Frequently Asked Questions

What insurance does Skylight accept?

We are in network for Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO and Aetna PPO plans. As many individual plans are different and with varying benefits for mental health coverage, we strongly encourage all potential clients to contact their insurance company and confirm benefits before meeting with one of our counselors.

If you have a different insurance plan you are able to pay the full cost of each visit out of pocket and we can provide regular statements so you may submit for any out of network benefits you may have.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost per session varies from $130-$200 depending on the experience level of the therapist. You can ask the therapist what their out of pocket rate is.

Additionally, if you plan to pay out of pocket you will be given an estimate for cost of service verbally and in writing from your therapist. For full information regarding estimates please see our page regarding the No Surprises Act.

If you plan to use insurance you would be responsible for your deductible and any copay or co-insurance you may have. Each insurance plan is different so it is best to contact your insurance company to better assess what you may owe per visit before getting started.

Does Skylight have a sliding scale option?

Yes, we have interns who are able to meet for $20 or less on a first come first serve basis.

Does Skylight offer in-person therapy?

Yes, we have offices in Evanston, Wilmette and the Chicago Loop. We also do sessions via telehealth.

We are only able to offer telehealth visits to clients who are in Illinois due to current licensure laws.

How do I get started?

For more information about our individual, couples or family therapy, please call 847-529-8300 x 0, email info@skylightcounselingcenter.com or complete our Contact Form

We typically return phone calls during the week on the same business day or within 12 hours. For faster response please email us or complete the contact form. After receiving your message, one of our intake coordinators will call you to discuss with you your reasons for seeking services, preferred availability, insurance information, therapist preferences, and any other information you would like to share. After gathering this information, our intake coordinator will connect you with one of our counselors. You should expect to hear from your counselor within 24 hours of the intake discussion.

Each of our therapists have their own schedules, so there is a possibility to be seen on weekdays, weekends, mornings, afternoons, or evenings. Weekend and evening availability tends to be most limited since those times are in high demand.

Skylight does not currently have a waitlist. However, if we do not have the availability to see you for a specific modality or during a particular day/time, you are always welcome to reach back out in the future to re-inquire about availability. If for any reason we are unable to match you with a therapist here at Skylight, we will instead provide you with referrals to other practices and providers.

Please note that we’re not available at all times to respond to inquiries. If you are in any immediate danger to yourself or others, please go to your nearest emergency room or contact a crisis hotline.
